Climate change is changing ecosystems and shifting weather patterns locally in Santa Barbara as well as around the country. This shift is impacting local and global communities across lines of race, economic class, and gender differently. Protesters Fight to Protect Chumash Land
March 2021
Fighting for the preservation of Chumash land at the San Marcos Foothills, protesters organized a sit-in to prevent the construction of 8 million-dollar homes. Their plight aims to draw attention to environmental awareness, the importance of activism, and the erasure and suppression of Native voices.

March in Solidarity: Justice for George Floyd
June, 2020
On May 30, UCSB students, staff, and community members gathered at Storke Tower to march in solidarity and call for justice in the murder of George Floyd and other victims of police violence and injustice. The march began at Storke Tower and went through the streets of Isla Vista, all the way to Sands beach.

UCSB 4 COLA Sickout
January 2020
On January 22nd, UCSB graduate students called in sick to stand in solidarity with UCSC's COLA movement. COLA stands for cost of living adjustment; watch the video to find out what this means to UCSB's grad students.

Demonstration Against Sexual Assault
November 2019
On October 31st, student activists gathered at the Arbor to take a stand against sexual assault and demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the level of response and measures taken by the University. There were 15 orgs present including UCSB Intersectional Feminists, M.U.J.E.R., Student's Against Sexual Assault, Catcalls of Santa Barbara, and many more.

Defending the Hood: Fighting Back Against Gentrifcation

An Activist Scholar Symposium: Asian American Activism
February 2019
From January 24-25, the Multicultural Center hosted a keynote and symposium on justice, bringing together some of the most important Asian American community organizers, such as Pam Tau Lee and other activist-scholars. The multi-day event covered topics like immigrant rights, environmental justice, labor, housing, education, prisons, state violence, intersectional racialized gender and heteropatriarchy, and international solidarity work.

Rent Control and the Housing Crisis in IV
